Line Chemistry (WOWY)
Line Chemistry — WOWY
Every 5v5 skater pair, ranked by their WOWY delta: net expected goals per 60 together minus their pooled rate apart from each other. A big positive delta means the two are far better as a unit than either is on their own — real chemistry, not just two good players. Negative means they drag each other down.
Together-vs-apart isolates the pair effect from individual quality. Note the sample caveat: chemistry is noisy — trust the wider-TOI pairs, and read this as descriptive color rather than a forecast. Filter by team and raise the TOI floor for stabler reads.
Coverage note: NHL shift chart data is missing for a large share of games this season.
Metrics that rely on shift charts (lineup and defensive tables) may be incomplete or empty at certain filters.
If a team looks empty at 5v5, try a different lineup size, situation, or TOI cutoff.
